Chapter 389 — Don't Forget to Record
"No, no, nothing of the sort!" Shen Yushu, her thoughts guessed at, shook her head again and again.
"If there's nothing, why is your face red?" Gu Mengyao was not convinced.
"I just feel that my old wish is a little hard to fulfill... hee hee, but I've made up my mind — I'm going to change my wish!" Shen Yushu said. "I've decided to marry the same man as Sister Yaoyao, so that we can live together forever!"
"..." Gu Mengyao broke out in a cold sweat. "Why are you still hung up on that wish?"
Toward evening, an unwelcome visitor arrived at the villa.
Wei Zhao had not expected An Jianwen to have the nerve to come knocking a second time. Had he not been thrashed badly enough last time?
Yet seeing the man's face wreathed in smiles, Wei Zhao nearly thought the fellow had been beaten into amnesia.
"Brother Lin, I truly am sorry about last time. I never imagined a meal would end so sourly. It was my fault, and I'll own it. I've been away from Songshan City for years and did not know how things stood here. Well — let's not speak of that again. Are you free tonight? Several of my brothers admire your great name and mean to drink a few cups with you, Brother Lin?" An Jianwen said to Wei Zhao, all smiles.
Wei Zhao gave An Jianwen a peculiar look. Could the boy have taken a loss last time and now be scheming for revenge? The fellow really was impatient — coming to settle scores so soon?
Wei Zhao turned to Gu Mengyao and asked her opinion.
Gu Mengyao had likewise guessed that An Jianwen was surely up to no good. Unless the man suffered from amnesia, he could hardly have forgotten that Wei Zhao had just given him a beating — the bandage on his forehead was proof enough!
"Brother Jianwen, is there something wrong inside your head?" Shen Yushu, too, stared at An Jianwen in astonishment.
"..." Several black lines rose on An Jianwen's forehead. "Xiaoshu, what are you saying? I don't understand a word of it..."
"Nothing. I just think you're asking to be beaten..." Shen Yushu did not care about An Jianwen's face, nor was there any need to spare it.
An Jianwen was somewhat vexed at Shen Yushu, yet dared not say a word: first, because he cared about his image in front of Gu Mengyao; second, because he truly could not afford to provoke this little madam.
"Sister Yaoyao, today I am hosting my savior by way of thanks. You don't mind lending me your bodyguard for a while?" An Jianwen said, smiling at Gu Mengyao. He deliberately laid stress on the word "bodyguard," meaning that he already knew Wei Zhao was her bodyguard.
Gu Mengyao frowned. But the fact that Wei Zhao had been hired by her daddy was no secret — many in the company knew of it, and if An Jianwen had taken the trouble to inquire, there was no hiding it from him.
So, now that he had spoken it aloud, she stopped making an issue over Wei Zhao: "It's evening now. Whatever he chooses to do is not for me to control."
Truth be told, there was still some resentment lodged in Gu Mengyao's heart. The afternoon's business had left her with a temper she could not vent, so when she saw An Jianwen come looking for trouble with Wei Zhao, she was glad enough to let Wei Zhao have a taste of trouble himself.
Though the outcome was plain to foresee — An Jianwen would be thrashed again — Gu Mengyao simply did not want Wei Zhao to have it so easy. Sending him off to wear himself out would also relieve a little of the hatred in her heart.
"Heh heh, Brother Lin, your boss has agreed. How about it — do me this face?" An Jianwen looked at Wei Zhao, smiling.
"Fine, let's go then!" Wei Zhao nodded. Since Gu Mengyao had said as much, he might as well put himself out a little and go thrash the boy once more. Even a shield must know its duty — he could not take his salary for nothing, could he?
"Then let us be off. After you, Mr. Lin!" Hearing Wei Zhao agree, An Jianwen was overjoyed. Both Gu Mengyao and Wei Zhao had guessed rightly: he had indeed come to settle scores today.
Last time Wei Zhao had set him up, leaving him with a grievance he could not voice, and it had infuriated An Jianwen — especially since the one who struck the blows was Li Cihua, with whom he had to cooperate, so that anger too could find no outlet. If An Jianwen did not show Wei Zhao a thing or two, the man would truly think him easy to bully.
Of course, An Jianwen could not move against Wei Zhao openly. After all, he had invited Wei Zhao to dinner from Gu Mengyao's house in broad daylight; one must spare the dog for the master's sake, and he could not be too obvious about it, or Gu Mengyao would certainly think him petty.
An Jianwen's plan was this: since Wei Zhao had set him up once, he would set Wei Zhao up once in return, and give him a grievance he could not voice.
Wei Zhao rose and followed An Jianwen out of the villa. At the doorway, he heard Shen Yushu call after him: "Brother Shield, the video — don't forget to record it!"
Wei Zhao nodded with a wry smile. An Jianwen, walking ahead, nearly stumbled and fell flat on the ground — so last time he had been recorded as well? Then had Gu Mengyao seen it too?
Damn it, what a spectacle that must have made of him! No wonder Gu Mengyao's eyes had looked so strange today when she stared at the bandage on his forehead — she already knew!
Wei Zhao, that wretch — this time he would make him pay! Hmph, but this time, the one who would be made a spectacle of was Wei Zhao himself. Shen Yushu wanted a recording, did she? Fine — he would oblige her, have it recorded, and show it to her!
At that thought, An Jianwen's heart felt a little more at ease, and a smile surfaced on his face. Feigning that he had not understood, he said, "Little sister Xiaoshu, rest assured, I will find a professional cameraman in a moment and film the whole drinking bout!"
Shen Yushu said nothing, only frowned. Not until Wei Zhao and An Jianwen had left the villa did she speak: "Sister Yaoyao, this time An Jianwen seems very sure of himself?"
"Who knows? He seemed very sure of himself last time too." Gu Mengyao curled her lip. Compared with Wei Zhao, she loathed An Jianwen even more.
"True. I hope Brother Shield can give us another surprise this time. Hee hee, I want to see how An Jianwen gets his comeuppance..." Shen Yushu nodded.
From An Jianwen's words, Wei Zhao had roughly made out his intent. A drinking bout? Did the fellow mean to drink him senseless and then stir up some sort of trouble?
But drink him senseless? Was that even possible? Wei Zhao smiled faintly and followed behind An Jianwen.
"Mr. Lin, tonight we drink until we drop, so let us not drive, shall we? Otherwise we won't be able to drive back anyway," said An Jianwen — he feared that if Wei Zhao drove, he would not drink so much, and his plan would come to nothing.
"All right, we'll take your car, then." Wei Zhao did not mind. If they did not drive, they could take a taxi back.
"Good — I hired a driver specially today, and did not even bring the sports car!" Hearing Wei Zhao agree, An Jianwen was overjoyed.
