Chapter 419 — I've Got a Task for You

The Blossom Guardian

With that, Zou Tiandi handed the phone to Qiu Lingshan and said, flatly, "Take the call, then?"

Qiu Lingshan gave Zou Tiandi a look that was half smile and half something else, and took the phone from him. "Hello, this is Qiu Lingshan. Who am I speaking to?"

"Song... Captain Song?" The man on the other end had been about to speak, but the moment he heard Qiu Lingshan's name he nearly jumped out of his skin. Who in all of Songshan City's police force did not know the name of Qiu Lingshan of the Criminal Investigation Unit? Who would dare cross her?

He was only a traffic cop; there was no way he could order around a captain of the Criminal Investigation Unit. Besides, if Qiu Lingshan had her eye on this Zou Tiandi, it was probably some major case. Who knew what illegal business the man was running? He had better distance himself from him, and fast!

At that thought, Brother Wang the traffic cop said hurriedly, "It's fine, Captain Song. I won't interrupt your investigation..."

Qiu Lingshan handed the phone back to Zou Tiandi. He had not heard a word of what Brother Wang said on the other end; all he had caught was Qiu Lingshan's "This is Qiu Lingshan..." So he assumed the matter was settled. He was just about to thank Brother Wang when he realized the other man had already hung up.

Zou Tiandi did not think much of it. The man was probably just busy. As long as the thing was settled, that was all that mattered. "Brother Wang talked to you, didn't he? Young comrade, you can go now. And don't stick your nose into other people's business in the future!"

"Dad..." Zou Ruoguang was so frightened he hurried to pull Zou Tiandi back. Zou Tiandi might not know who Qiu Lingshan was, but how could Zou Ruoguang not? As the top thug of the North District, he would have been wasting his life if he did not know the captain of the Criminal Investigation Unit. Seeing his father lecturing her with no idea he was courting death, his face went white with fear.

"What are you doing?" Zou Tiandi glared at his son in annoyance. "If you have something to say, say it."

"Dad, she's Captain Song of the Criminal Investigation Unit..." Zou Ruoguang said cautiously.

"Huh?" Zou Tiandi was struck dumb on the spot. "She... she's the captain of the Criminal Investigation Unit?"

"Are you coming or not? I'd rather not have to use force." Qiu Lingshan pulled out her handcuffs and glared at Zou Tiandi.

"Fine... I'll come, then..." Zou Tiandi's face was a picture of misery. He had never imagined he would end up crossing the captain of the Criminal Investigation Unit. If he did not go now, she would probably draw her gun next!

"I'm not involved in any of this, right...? I was just passing by, just an innocent bystander..." Zou Ruoguang had no desire whatsoever to go to the police station.

"You're coming too! You were illegally operating an unlicensed, modified motorcycle, and I suspect you of intent to gather a crowd and cause trouble." Qiu Lingshan gave Zou Ruoguang no chance to argue. "I know who you are. The monk may run, but the temple stays put. You're welcome to try running..."

"I won't run. Ha. I'll go cooperate with the investigation..." Zou Ruoguang laughed twice, a tragic little laugh on a bitter face.

"Thanks, you brain-dead girl." Wei Zhao was actually quite grateful that Qiu Lingshan had shown up and bailed him out. Zou Ruoguang's arrival had immediately reminded him who Zou Tiandi was, and getting rid of them would have been easy enough. But Qiu Lingshan had been so quick about it that Wei Zhao had to admit she was not bad.

"No! You're coming with me too!" Qiu Lingshan was about to explode. If you want to call me brain-dead girl, couldn't you do it in private? Calling me that in front of all these people — how was she supposed to save face? Her temper flared, and she was in no mood to indulge Wei Zhao.

"I have to come too...?" Wei Zhao pointed at his own nose, speechless, and was about to say something when Tang Yun spoke first.

"Let's just go. We have to cooperate with the investigation — it's our duty..." Tang Yun was a good girl; naturally she would not refuse to go to the police station and cooperate. "Besides, it's not our fault. It's theirs. Once we get to the station we can explain everything clearly..."

"Heh... all right." Wei Zhao nodded with a wry smile. Tang Yun really was a good girl. As far as Wei Zhao was concerned, who cared what Qiu Lingshan said — he would just walk off, and he did not believe she would dare arrest him and drag him back.

"Phew..." Qiu Lingshan breathed a quiet sigh of relief. That last remark had been blurted out in a fit of temper without a thought for the consequences, and she had regretted it the moment it left her mouth. When had Wei Zhao ever given her any face? Ordering him around was practically inviting humiliation. If Wei Zhao turned and walked away, she would lose even more face in front of Zou Tiandi and his son — worse than that "brain-dead girl" jab.

Now Tang Yun had actually spoken up and volunteered to go to the police station. Qiu Lingshan felt relieved, and a little grateful to Tang Yun — but at the same time she was secretly annoyed at how Wei Zhao hung on Tang Yun's every word and doted on her. She was no worse than Tang Yun, was she? In looks and in height she was every bit Tang Yun's equal, and her figure was several times more explosive. Wei Zhao, you blind fool, why are you so crude to me?

The more Qiu Lingshan thought about it, the angrier she got. Why was Wei Zhao gentle with Tang Yun and like this with her? Was she really that repulsive to him? She had to be a brain-dead girl just to ask him for a favor.

"You follow behind in your own car!" Qiu Lingshan got into the police car and made Wei Zhao, Zou Tiandi and the rest trail after her, lights flashing the whole way to the police station.

Zou Tiandi had no idea what the relationship between Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan was. Hearing Wei Zhao call Qiu Lingshan a brain-dead girl, he was secretly delighted — now here was some entertainment. This Wei Zhao was probably in for a beating, wasn't he?

Still, Zou Tiandi had no intention of letting Wei Zhao off so easily. On the way to the police station, he dialed his younger son Zou Ruoming's number.

"Hey, Ruoming, you're at school, right?" Zou Tiandi had always kept Zou Ruoming studying hard at school and out of all those brawls and fights. But this time he was truly furious. His eldest son, Zou Ruoguang, was far too soft — he couldn't even teach a man a lesson! His younger son, on the other hand, was a bold, reckless, ruthless sort. He had always told the boy to study hard, but Zou Tiandi knew exactly what kind of person he was.

"Dad, I'm at school. I'm studying..." Zou Ruoming had just finished a meeting with Feng Xiaoxiao, and the call from his father gave him a fright. It wasn't a spot check on him, was it? He hurried to explain.

"Enough, cut the crap!" Zou Tiandi snapped. "You think I don't know what you're like, boy? I've got a task for you. Go to your Uncle Yan's villa in the northern suburbs and ask him to come block someone at the police station entrance. I'll send you the man's information in a bit!"

"Huh? You want me to go?" Zou Ruoming was stunned. He had not expected his father to give him this job! Wasn't it always handed to his big brother before? And the first time he was sent out, he would be bringing Uncle Yan along — that was just too badass!

His big brother had never gotten that kind of treatment. Uncle Yan was a Yellow-rank expert! Just thinking about walking out with a Yellow-rank enforcer at his side made him feel like a big shot.
