Chapter 649 — The Poisoned Qiu Lingshan
With the cameras no longer threatening her, Qiu Lingshan could hold back no longer this time. She had no wish to do that shameful thing to herself with her own hands, yet the movements of her body were no longer for her mind to command...
Qiu Lingshan was in torment. She felt as if her body were about to burn, as if she would be burned alive unless she found release soon... Her breathing grew quicker and quicker. She truly could bear it no more. Her mind could no longer control the will of her limbs...
An Jianwen's headquarters was not large at all. In fact, it was only three stories high, with but a single fire escape, and Wei Zhao soon found the entrance to the basement. This had to be the dungeon the tattooed man had spoken of.
At the entrance to the basement stood an iron door that looked very solid, yet to Wei Zhao with his present strength, it counted for nothing at all.
Wei Zhao came to a halt before the iron door and did not rush to strike. Instead he waited a moment. The jade pendant on his chest gave no response, which meant there was no danger inside that could threaten him. The pendant had all but become his secret edge, and it was by relying on it that his luck always seemed to explode, bringing him through peril time and again.
Only then did Wei Zhao suddenly spring up and drive a kick at the iron door. With a thunderous boom, half the door caved in under his blow. Fearing he might hurt Qiu Lingshan inside, Wei Zhao had not used his full strength, or the door would have flown clean off. For an early Mystic-rank adept, such a thing was mere child's play.
Once half the door had fallen in, Wei Zhao gave it one more kick, and only then did the iron door crash to the ground with a bang.
In that instant Qiu Lingshan was scared witless. Her hands stopped, and even the desire inside her seemed to freeze for a moment.
The huge crash from the iron door left Qiu Lingshan at a loss. She did not know what had suddenly happened, but when she saw the whole door toppled, seemingly destroyed by outside force, her shock knew no bounds.
What strength would it take to bring down such an iron door? Qiu Lingshan asked herself and knew she could not do it. Even an adept at the peak of mid Yellow-rank could not. Then what level must the one who felled it be? Or perhaps the door had not been brought down by human strength at all, but with the aid of some equipment?
But when Qiu Lingshan saw Wei Zhao stride in over the fallen door, she knew her first guess had been right. The door had been kicked down by a man, and a man she knew at that, the very Wei Zhao who both angered and exasperated her.
At the sight of Wei Zhao, Qiu Lingshan felt, for no reason she could name, a sudden easing in her heart. And as he stepped in over the door, she felt none of her usual dislike, but rather a trace of admiration. Was it because of his strength? Because he had kicked down that iron door?
Whatever it was, Qiu Lingshan had to admit that Wei Zhao was strong, truly strong. In that moment she finally understood that his strength stood far above her own. No wonder Yang Huaijun held him in such high regard. He truly possessed the power.
The moment her heart relaxed, desire seized Qiu Lingshan's whole body once more, and her hands reached of their own accord for her most sensitive places... Shame and fury washed over her together. Wei Zhao had come to save her, and she should have been glad, yet perversely she wished he had come just a little later.
The passion within her surged beyond all control until she could hardly breathe. Qiu Lingshan's gaze turned hazy again. With every breath she drew in more of the drug, and she was losing command of herself entirely...
"No... I cannot. Wei Zhao is right before me. How can I do this?"
That was the last shred of will left in Qiu Lingshan's mind. The next instant, desire burst through her like a breached dam, flooding her whole body with a roar, and she could no longer rule her body or her speech with her brain...
"Ah!" Qiu Lingshan cried out, tearing hard at her clothes with both hands, her legs pressed tight together, as if trying to vent something. But she was clumsy, seeking for the first time to release the desire in her body by herself, yet finding no way and no relief, so she only tore at her clothes more frantically. She was going mad.
As Wei Zhao entered, he spotted Qiu Lingshan on the ground at a glance, but her condition looked strange, as if she were having an epileptic fit, writhing about on the floor. What was she doing?
Wei Zhao sniffed the air of the dungeon and caught something unusual. An aphrodisiac. A very common aphrodisiac hung thick in the air of the cell, the same kind Tang Yun had once fallen victim to.
At that scent, Wei Zhao held his breath on instinct. He had no wish to end up like Qiu Lingshan.
A Mystic-rank adept surpassed a Yellow-rank adept in more than mere power. A Mystic-rank adept had learned to use the art of turtle-breathing. So-called turtle-breathing meant to regulate the breath like a tortoise, to live long without drink or food. When a tortoise slept, its breathing grew very slow. Of course Wei Zhao could not truly become a tortoise, but he could slow his breathing.
Breathing like this, Wei Zhao could avoid inhaling too much of the aphrodisiac, and even the small amount he did take in could be wholly ignored. But while Wei Zhao could use turtle-breathing, Qiu Lingshan could not.
"You have been drugged with an aphrodisiac..." Wei Zhao walked up to Qiu Lingshan, but before he could finish, she threw her arms around him, clambering wildly onto his body and locking her arms about his neck. In that moment the agility of a mid Yellow-rank adept burst forth from her to the fullest, her whole frame impossibly light and nimble.
Otherwise such a difficult maneuver was beyond any ordinary person.
"Help me... I cannot stand it. It hurts so much..." With eyes half closed, Qiu Lingshan mumbled incoherently and leaned in to kiss Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao frowned. He had not expected Qiu Lingshan to react so violently. This aphrodisiac was not the fiercest kind, but its effects varied from person to person. Some who took it might remain calm and mild. Tang Yun had reacted too, but never so gravely as this.
"Stop struggling!" Wei Zhao frowned, prying Qiu Lingshan's hands loose and trying to push her off him, but no sooner had he freed one hand than the other clutched at him again, leaving him deeply exasperated.
Qiu Lingshan was dying of shame. Though her body was beyond control, her mind was perfectly clear. Yet what she did was not thought through by her brain at all, but driven wholly by instinct.
