Chapter 738 — A Slip of the Tongue

The Blossom Guardian

"Auntie, so how is it — are you satisfied with the apartment?" Fatso Lai asked when he saw Mother Tang come over.

"Satisfied, satisfied. Little Lai, you really are a fine friend for Xiaoyi to have!" Mother Tang praised.

"Haha, when you put it that way, Auntie, I'm flattered beyond measure!" Fatso Lai laughed. "It's about noon anyway — how about I treat everyone to a meal?"

Manager Wang was astonished all the more. President Lai had knocked so much off the price and done them such an enormous favor, and Wei Zhao wasn't even standing him a meal — instead Lai was offering to play host himself? It seemed these people were truly not to be trifled with.

"How could that be right? I ought to be the one treating you!" Stingy as Mother Tang was, she knew Fatso Lai had helped a great deal today, so she said hurriedly, "As it happens, I have a few things I'd like to ask you about too."

"That's easy enough — then let's find a restaurant nearby first," Fatso Lai said with a nod.

The four of them left the sales office together. Mother Tang carefully put the contract away. Several hundred thousand — nearly a million — and this was the first time in her whole life she had spent such a sum. For all her excitement, she still felt unsteady, as though none of it were quite real.

"Ride in my car?" Fatso Lai was driving an Audi Q7 SUV today.

"No need, I drove here too!" Wei Zhao pointed at his beat-up van.

In truth Mother Tang would have liked to ride in Fatso Lai's luxury car, but seeing Wei Zhao say that, she could only give up the idea — though she still felt a little envious inside.

Fatso Lai didn't mind at all; he climbed straight into Wei Zhao's beat-up van and sat in the back with Mother Tang, leaving the front passenger seat to Tang Yun.

Wei Zhao drove off and asked, "Where are we eating?"

"How about here?" Fatso Lai picked a restaurant that looked decent enough. At this hour, going too far afield simply wasn't practical.

Wei Zhao glanced at the restaurant entrance, and there, parked as well, was the BMW he had stepped on earlier. He paid it no mind — surely he wasn't going to skip a meal just because that fellow was here? Besides, he wasn't the least bit afraid of him.

Fatso Lai and Wei Zhao walked into the restaurant together with the others. Fatso Lai had not noticed the bald Boss Wu and his little mistress Xiaoli — they were two nobodies, and Fatso Lai never gave them a second thought.

Mother Tang, too, was too caught up in her joy to notice a thing. It was Tang Yun who spotted the bald Boss Wu and his little mistress at a table on the left side of the main hall.

"Wei Zhao, that Boss Wu or whatever is eating here too? Maybe we shouldn't have come," Tang Yun said hesitantly. After all, her family had come out some two hundred fifty thousand ahead at his expense, and running into him face to face like this inevitably felt awkward.

"Oh? Then we ought to send him packing, so he doesn't ruin my girlfriend's mood," Wei Zhao said with a smile.

"You're awful — why are you so domineering?" Tang Yun was thoroughly embarrassed.

"Fine, then we'll pay him no mind," Wei Zhao said, shaking his head.

Fatso Lai asked the waiter for a private room. Really, four people had no need of a room to themselves, but Fatso Lai felt that hosting a meal ought to be done properly.

Once they were seated in the room, since Fatso Lai was the host, he ordered a few signature dishes first, then handed the menu to Mother Tang and Tang Yun. "Auntie, sis-in-law... uh, Miss Tang, have a look at what you'd like."

Fatso Lai had let his tongue slip; luckily he recovered quickly, and seeing that Mother Tang seemed not to have noticed, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Isn't this plenty? There are only four of us — surely we can't eat all this," Mother Tang said, glancing over the dishes Fatso Lai had ordered. They were all the house specialties, and already more than enough.

"Yes, these will be quite sufficient for four," the waiter nodded as well. A restaurant might hope to sell as much as possible, but it couldn't let guests order more than they could eat.

When it came to Tang Yun, she ordered only a few drinks and added no dishes. There was nothing Fatso Lai could do but add a dessert himself, then wave the waiter away.

The bald Boss Wu, seated not far off, had also caught sight of Wei Zhao and his party. His brows knitted at once. "Enemies truly do meet on a narrow road! At the sales office there were too many people about, so I couldn't do anything to you — and yet here you've delivered yourselves to my door?"

"That's right, Boss Wu. These people are simply wicked — they made us spend an extra two hundred fifty thousand!" Xiaoli's heart ached over it. Think of how nicely that money would have served her! Given away for nothing to others — back when they were buying, she hadn't thought much of it, since it was Boss Wu's money being spent, but now that the apartment was hers, Xiaoli felt that the extra money had been hers as well!

"If I don't have someone teach them a lesson, my hatred will never be appeased!" What the bald Boss Wu actually had in mind was to hire someone to beat Wei Zhao up, then force him to leave Tang Yun — and at that moment he himself would appear, strong and commanding, and win the goodwill of Tang Yun's family! Then he would not be far from winning the beauty's hand.

"That's right, Boss Wu. Aren't you under Brother Cihua's protection? Why not go to Brother Cihua?" Xiaoli suggested.

"That was precisely my intention!" the bald Boss Wu said with a nod. His taxi company was affiliated under Li Cihua's company, and every month he paid Li Cihua a hefty tribute — otherwise, how could a bald Boss Wu run roughshod through Songshan City's taxi trade and rise to the top of it?

Because he had Li Cihua behind him, the other taxi companies were angry but dared not speak out. Who would dare provoke Li Cihua?

The bald Boss Wu dialed Li Cihua's number.

At that moment Li Cihua had just finished accompanying his brother through the silver-needle excision surgery. The operation had left Li Dilei a wreck: with the silver needles removed, his whole body was riddled with holes, like a man made of a sieve; every wound was the size of a rice bowl — a sight simply horrifying to behold!

But to stay alive, there was no other way. Otherwise, if the true qi Wei Zhao had sealed inside him burst out, he would have no path left to life at all.

"Brother, how am I supposed to live after this? They even dug a hole in my little jj — I'm so wretched!" Once the anesthetic wore off, Li Dilei was in agony, half dead with pain.

"Enough, stop your howling! Who told you to go provoking Wei Zhao for no reason?" Li Cihua glared at Li Dilei. "Even Young Master Bing doesn't know how to deal with Wei Zhao right now — what could you possibly manage?"

"But I'm not resigned to it! I want revenge! I want Wei Zhao cut to pieces!" Li Dilei grimaced and bared his teeth in pain.

"Wait for Young Master Bing to get your revenge for you. Don't even think about it yourself!" How could Li Cihua not hate Wei Zhao? He too hated him to the marrow — but what did hating him to the marrow avail? He was utterly powerless against Wei Zhao, and deeply wary of him besides.

For that brat Wei Zhao did things even more domineeringly than he himself did. The Qibing Building had barely been rebuilt — and to think it had been brought down by Wei Zhao. The thought wrung Li Cihua's heart: all those gleaming piles of silver, gone just like that!
