Chapter 945 — Give Me Ten Billion!

The Blossom Guardian

"No, if anything happened to Sister Yaoyao and Brother Jianpai, then living on would be meaningless to me!" Shen Yushu shook her head.

"All right, then you stay here." What Gu Pengzhan figured was that even if Shen Yushu stayed, the Yu family might not dare to lay a hand on her. She was a member of the Chen family. Although the Chen family had declined, with Old Master Chen retired and Chen Yutian still having accomplished little, the Chens were nevertheless an old-line family with influence in military circles. As long as the Yu family did not want an open break, they would not offend the Chen family at a moment like this.

Time ticked by, minute by minute, and in the blink of an eye it was already half past six in the morning. Still, no word had come out of Wei Zhao's room.

Gu Pengzhan finally could not hold back. He walked over and raised a hand to knock, but hesitated and did not. Instead, he pressed his ear against the door of Wei Zhao's room, straining to hear what was going on inside.

But to Gu Pengzhan's disappointment, there was not a single sound from Wei Zhao's room.

Was Wei Zhao healing his injuries? Gu Pengzhan did not know. What was certain was that Wei Zhao must have his own unfinished business — extremely important business. Otherwise, why would he stay shut in his room, neither coming out nor giving the slightest sign?

It was plain that Wei Zhao had no time to explain any of this. After he had hurried into his room, the only words he left behind were: do not disturb him.

And so Gu Pengzhan hesitated again and again, did not knock, and retreated to the sofa. He sat down and quietly waited for Wei Zhao to come out on his own...

But then, something happened that was at once expected and entirely unexpected.

With a loud bang, the villa's front door was kicked open by a tremendous force, startling Gu Pengzhan, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu, who were on the sofa.

Gu Pengzhan's heart tightened. What was bound to come had finally come! He did not know which of them had come looking for him first, but it was certain to be one of the Xiao family, Zhao Qibing, or the Yu family. Otherwise, who would be so arrogant as to smash straight through the door without even knocking?

Though Gu Pengzhan had already braced himself for someone to come to his door, when the moment arrived, he still felt it had come too early. It was not even seven in the morning — were his enemies already so impatient? What a greedy, frantic pack they were!

"Gu Pengzhan, you've got plenty of nerve, haven't you? I hear you were planning to take your daughter and run? So you really didn't go to the company — you've been hiding in your daughter's home!" Yu Haitian sneered coldly. "But can the Monkey King ever escape from the palm of the Tathagata Buddha?"

Yu Haitian and Yu Bide had first gone to Gu Pengzhan's residence. When they found he was not there, their hearts lurched. He had not really run away, had he? They hurried over to Gu Mengyao's place, only to find Gu Pengzhan's car parked in front of the villa.

This made Yu Haitian and Yu Bide all the more certain that Gu Pengzhan was preparing to flee with his daughter. Otherwise, why would he come to Gu Mengyao's house so early in the morning instead of going to the company to wait for them?

At the sound of Yu Haitian's voice, Gu Pengzhan's heart sank. He had not expected the first to come calling to be the most troublesome of them all — the Yu family! If it had been the Xiao family or Zhao Qibing's men, they would have been easy enough to handle; hand over the holdings they wanted and the matter would be settled.

But the Yu family wanted not only his holdings — they wanted his daughter as well.

"If I were planning to run away, would I still be sitting here waiting for you?" Gu Pengzhan said, forcing himself to appear calm even as panic gripped his heart. "If I meant to leave, I'd have been long gone."

"Hmph, cut the nonsense. Have you thought over my terms?" Yu Bide interrupted Gu Pengzhan and asked directly.

"I'm willing to transfer all the group's shares to the Yu family without compensation, but as for my daughter, I hope the Yu family will show her mercy!" Gu Pengzhan knew there was no way out, so he was making one final, desperate struggle.

"Show mercy? Ridiculous!" Yu Bide sneered. "When your daughter let that little bastard Wei Zhao kill my son, why didn't she think of showing mercy?"

"After all, didn't Xiao Yi also show mercy in the end — and that was why your son survived?" Gu Pengzhan said, neither humble nor haughty.

"That's right! It's precisely because my son did not die that I'm letting your daughter become his concubine and wait on him. I showed mercy as well. Otherwise, I would have killed your daughter outright and had her married to my son in a ghost marriage!" Yu Bide glared at Gu Pengzhan, furious.

"Mr. Yu, when it comes down to it, it was your son who first trespassed into my daughter's villa without permission, and that was what led to these consequences..." Gu Pengzhan argued for all he was worth. This was the final moment, and though he knew reasoning with the Yu family would probably be futile, he had to fight for it nonetheless.

If the Yu family really did take Gu Mengyao away, then the Gu family would be finished for good.

"What? Are you saying the Yu family is at fault? Are you saying my son brought it on himself? Is that what you mean? Do you dare say it again?" A sinister look immediately came over Yu Bide's face.

"I didn't say that. I only hope Mr. Yu will spare my daughter! If you are willing to spare her, I will agree to whatever terms you propose!" Gu Pengzhan said after a moment's hesitation.

"Fine! Give the Yu family ten billion, and I'll let your daughter go. How about that? Fair, isn't it? Money for a life!" Yu Bide laughed heartily.

"You—" Gu Pengzhan's face flushed red. The Yu family's terms were simply unreasonable! Ten billion — where was he supposed to get ten billion? Weren't they just deliberately making things impossible for him?

"What, Mr. Gu? Could it be you're pained at the money — unwilling to buy a life with cash?" A sneer curled at the corner of Yu Bide's mouth. "In that case, don't blame this Yu for not giving you a chance!"

"Whew!" Gu Pengzhan took a deep breath and tried hard to calm himself. Don't get angry, he reminded himself. This was not the time for an open break with the Yu family. He had to endure — he absolutely had to endure.

"Mr. Yu, isn't ten billion asking the impossible?" Gu Pengzhan asked in a low voice.

"What, Gu Pengzhan? Do you think your daughter is not worth ten billion?" Yu Bide retorted.

"Mr. Yu, but you know very well that I can't come up with ten billion," Gu Pengzhan said somewhat helplessly. At this moment, he was no longer the lofty president of the group, but a loving father willing to set aside all pride and dignity for his daughter.
