Chapter 976 — Miracle Doctor Brother

The Blossom Guardian

What did he mean by saying she did not need to do anything? Was he refusing to take her as his lover, or was he hinting that he was about to save her mother and would not have her interfere?

Chen Xi could not know the answer. Wei Zhao, however, had already set to work!

Wei Zhao produced a case of silver needles from his person, drew out several needles, and swiftly inserted them into Chen's mother's body.

"You... aren't you going to sterilize them?" Though Chen Xi trusted Wei Zhao, she also knew that if the silver needles were not disinfected, they could carry bacteria and cause infection.

"Already sterilized," Wei Zhao said flatly, offering no further explanation. Whenever Wei Zhao used silver needles without alcohol or other disinfectants on hand, he would sterilize them with his own true qi; the heat generated by true qi in an instant was more than enough to kill any bacteria.

"Oh..." Chen Xi assumed that Wei Zhao had sterilized the needles before bringing them along, so she did not press the matter.

Cancer was not something Wei Zhao's energy could repair. If it was caught in the early stage, as long as he could keep the cancer cells from spreading, he could excise a large portion of the liver and then use his energy to regenerate the damaged organ, thereby achieving a complete cure.

But now the cancer cells had long since spread. There was no way Wei Zhao could use that method anymore; he could only resort to the second, far more troublesome option.

He had sealed several major acupoints on Chen's mother's body with silver needles, keeping the cancer cells from spreading further. Next, he would use the energy within his body to first help Chen's mother restore her vitality, and then administer Chinese herbal medicine to thoroughly eradicate the cancer cells.

There had been many cases throughout the world in which traditional Chinese medicine cured cancer. Though rare, such cases were by no means impossible.

Wei Zhao had a thorough command of ancient formulas and pharmacology; curing Chen's mother's illness was entirely within his power. The process was merely troublesome, requiring different medicines at each stage of treatment according to its efficacy, until at last a full recovery could be achieved. The length of this process varied from person to person—it might be very quick, or it might take years.

But with Wei Zhao's energy, he could ceaselessly restore the vitality that the cancer cells devoured, until she was completely healed. The only drawback was that Wei Zhao would have to visit Chen's mother at regular intervals to treat her.

It was an ongoing process, far less convenient than a one-time cure in the early stage.

Wei Zhao activated the Xuanyuan Dragon-Commanding Art and began channeling energy into Chen's mother.

Chen Xi, Feng Xiaoxiao, and the waiter from the beef noodle shop all held their breath, watching Wei Zhao. They had no idea what effect these few silver needles would have, but seeing Wei Zhao's practiced skill, they were filled with trust in him.

"Mm... what has happened to me?" Chen's mother had woken. She touched her forehead, coming to herself in a haze, and opened her weary eyes to look around. When she saw the people gathered at her side, and her daughter's cheeks wet with pear-blossom tears, she could not help but start: "Xiao Xi... what is this..."

"Mother, you are awake!" Chen Xi had not expected her mother to truly regain consciousness. Just earlier, she had been terrified that once her mother fell into this coma, she would never wake again. Yet Wei Zhao had really brought her mother back! Overjoyed as she was, she silently gave thanks to Wei Zhao and resolved in her heart that whatever he asked of her, she would consent.

"Xiao Xi... I... was I just a little sleepy and dozed off?" Chen's mother lowered her head and suddenly discovered the silver needles still stuck in her body. In great alarm, she cried, "This is..."

"Mother, you fainted a moment ago. Thanks to this miracle doctor brother for coming to your rescue..." Chen Xi looked at Wei Zhao as she spoke to her mother. But when her gaze fell upon Wei Zhao, her cheeks reddened slightly once more...

"So I fainted, did I..." Chen's mother was taken aback, then hurriedly thanked Wei Zhao: "Thank you, I truly thank you so much. I never expected to trouble you yet again..."

"It was nothing." Wei Zhao shook his head and put away the silver needles. "I have only temporarily stabilized the cancer cells in your body—that is not to say you are cured. Where is your home? Let us talk on the way..."

There were still outsiders in the noodle shop, and Wei Zhao had no wish for word to spread that he could cure cancer. If it did, he feared he would never get anything done again—everyone would come looking for him to treat their illnesses. However formidable Wei Zhao was, he was still only one man, and he treated patients by means of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Commanding Art; the method could not be replicated or popularized.

Wei Zhao did not wish to overturn the present state of medicine, for one man alone was powerless to do so.

Before Chen's mother could speak, the quick-witted Chen Xi had already guessed Wei Zhao's intentions. The first was secrecy; and as for the second—was he going to their home to learn the way? Was he afraid that once he had cured her mother, she would not give herself to him?

"Miracle doctor brother, please come with me!" Chen Xi nodded, helped her mother to her feet, and made for the door without allowing any objection.

Chen's mother wanted to tell her daughter not to give their home address to strangers so casually, but then she reflected: so many years had passed since that affair—that woman could hardly have found her way here by such a coincidence, still less could she have come to know Wei Zhao. And so she said nothing.

Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao followed them out of the noodle shop. Watching from behind, the waiter shook his head. He thought Wei Zhao could hardly wait to go claim Chen Xi's body and complete this transaction.

"Miracle doctor brother, my home is this way..." Once outside the door, Chen Xi made a gesture toward the right.

"Get in the car. We drove here." Wei Zhao pointed at Feng Xiaoxiao's Audi TT. Though it was a sports car, it had rear seating like the Beetle; it was a bit awkward to sit in, but there was no problem riding back there for a short while.

Seeing that they were to get into the car, Chen's mother clearly hesitated. She did not know who Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao were, and although Wei Zhao had revived her, she still felt an instinctive wariness of strangers.

Chen Xi, however, suspected nothing and nodded at once, taking her mother by the hand to board the car. She had witnessed a miracle with her own eyes; Wei Zhao had awakened her mother with his consummate medical skill, so her trust in him was unreserved.

Seeing her daughter persist, and with the two young people before her having helped their family twice already, Chen's mother truly could not bring herself to say anything in front of them. After a moment's hesitation, she followed Chen Xi into the car.

She thought that in broad daylight, Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao could hardly harbor any malicious intent.
