Chapter 1367 — Jin Wudi Descends the Mountain

The Blossom Guardian

Elder Yu had not expected that after making his suggestion, Wei Zhao would simply settle down and begin cultivating in perfect peace. Irritation flared in him at once: "You thieving little brat — instead of helping search for the entrance, you sit here cultivating? Do you think a few moments of training will let you beat me?"

"That's hard to say. You're wounded now, and if I put in a little more effort, there's no problem in fighting you to a draw." Wei Zhao spoke calmly. "Oh, and I may as well tell you — General Weiwu and I are of one mind. Thank you for telling me it's a healing-type spirit beast. When my strength runs low, I can go to it for healing. You can't. So I can simply wear you down until you die!"

Wei Zhao had seen the covetous look in Elder Yu's eyes when he regarded General Weiwu. To kill that notion before it took root, he had no choice but to give the old man a warning first — lest, before the medical notes were found, he come to blows with Elder Yu too soon.

"Hmph!" Elder Yu gave a cold snort. He was indeed wounded, though he had been concealing it all along. The tomb-guarding spirit beast's blow had not been fatal, but it had more or less sapped his strength; he could no longer hold to his peak condition. His right arm in particular, blown apart by Wei Zhao, had still not healed, so he could not bring his full power to bear — which made everything the more laborious.

"I agreed to your terms, and I'll give you everything I promised. If you won't help search for the entrance, isn't that just wasting time?" Elder Yu said after a moment's thought.

"I'm no good at that sort of thing. It's already something that I could tell there's a problem with this stone pillar." Wei Zhao spoke as though it were nothing. "If you want to search, then search. Don't get in my way."

"You—" Elder Yu was choked with anger. But since Wei Zhao was cultivating, he thought it over and chose to cultivate as well; he sat down cross-legged and began to train. He was no better at hunting out hidden mechanisms and secret passages, so he might as well cultivate...

And so Wei Zhao and Elder Yu, one old and one young, sat facing each other a short distance apart and began to cultivate. Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yutian, embarrassed to cultivate themselves, could only make a show of searching the stone pillar for its mechanisms...

Songshan City, the Gu family villa. Today was the weekend — Saturday.

Though Ergoudan was there as a bodyguard, the atmosphere in the villa somehow felt oppressive.

"So boring. Sister Yaoyao, I don't know what to do with myself." Shen Yushu lay on the sofa, yawned lazily, switched off the tablet in her hands with a listless air, and complained to Gu Mengyao.

"Then what do you want to do?" Gu Mengyao was playing Monopoly on her phone to pass the time.

"Where on earth has Arrow Brand Bro gone? Not a word for days. How about we go look for him?" A thought struck Shen Yushu, and she made the suggestion.

"Look for him? Where would we even start? Wei Zhao went to find the Fire Spirit Fruit for Feng Xiaoxiao — he didn't go off to play. Don't disturb him." Gu Mengyao said. "If you're bored, we'll go shopping with Tang Yun this afternoon."

"Shopping... without Arrow Brand Bro, it doesn't seem like any fun..." Shen Yushu said, dispirited. She turned to look at Ergoudan, who sat dumbly at the villa's front gate. "Hey, Little Two, Arrow Brand Bro is your leader — how can you be so dull? Moping all day and blocking the doorway. Who ever heard of a bodyguard like you?"

Ergoudan's behavior exasperated Gu Mengyao as well. Wasn't this bodyguard a little too professional? At the villa he sat at the front gate like a door god, at all hours; and when Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu went out, he sat in the car like an escort, saying hardly a word.

"The leader only told me to protect you both, and I reckon this is the only way to do it!" Ergoudan said, as though it were the most natural thing in the world.

"Ugh — you're hopeless." Shen Yushu was speechless. This Ergoudan simply would not take her orders; he was a man who clung to the letter of things. Whatever Wei Zhao told him to do, he did; whatever Wei Zhao did not, he did nothing at all.

And so, with Wei Zhao, the villa's master chef, gone these past days, life had reverted to three meals a day delivered by Uncle Qing.

In a luxurious villa within a villa complex on the outskirts of Donghai City, a hale old man in white robes was glaring, eyes wide, at the man before him who was missing half an arm: "They were so vicious as to cripple you like this?"

"Master, I beg you to stand up for your disciple, to avenge me!" The man missing half an arm was Ma Zhu, blown into a severely disabled wreck by Wei Zhao's energy bomb. Seeing his master come at last, Ma Zhu could no longer hold back the grief in his heart and wept bitterly: "Your disciple's Golden Bell Shield is ruined. I'll never be able to cultivate again!"

"Rest assured, I will make that little wretch Wei Zhao wish he were dead, and leave him for you to kill with your own hands!" This old man was Jin Wudi, who had come down from the mountain — an external-school expert at the peak of the early Earth Rank!

"Thank you, Master... but I... ah!" Ma Zhu thought of his own condition and could not help but sigh.

"Rest assured, in the future I will find another way for you — I'll obtain some internal-school techniques for you to cultivate. You may not go far on the external path, but it's the same if you cultivate internal techniques well. Cultivating both inner and outer, you can achieve even greater things!" Jin Wudi consoled him. Yet he himself knew well enough that Ma Zhu was most likely ruined for life.

This villa belonged to the Zhen family of Donghai, and Jin Wudi's arrival was met with a warm welcome from father and son.

"Ancestor Wudi, your arrival truly brings glory to my humble home!" Zhen Dazhou was deferential to the extreme. "Is there anything else you require?"

"Hmph. No need to flatter me — I know what you're thinking." Jin Wudi was not taken in by Zhen Dazhou's manner. "Spare me the hypocrisy. I've come this time to avenge my disciple. Of course, if that brat is your enemy as well, I'll deal with him in passing, and you needn't thank me."

"Thanks are still owed..." Zhen Dazhou said, somewhat awkwardly. "This is a small token of my regard. Please accept it, Ancestor Wudi..."

With that, Zhen Dazhou handed Jin Wudi a red envelope.

"What is it?" Jin Wudi asked indifferently.

"A deposit slip for ten million." Zhen Dazhou had not expected Jin Wudi to ask outright; he paused, then told the truth.

"Oh?" Jin Wudi nodded, took it, and put it away. "Speak, then. What do you want me to do?"

Jin Wudi was a practical man, and he was indeed short of money. Like the hidden families, the sects could not openly go out and rake in wealth, so Jin Wudi had no choice but to send some of his disciples out under the guise of training, to do unlawful, criminal work for certain people in exchange for benefits — and Ma Zhu was one of them.
