Chapter 1504 — You're Just As Bad As They Are
"Both of them? That Snow Lingzhi over there—you were the one who found it?" Wei Zhao was slightly taken aback.
"It was me. But Zhang Nai Pao and those villains snatched it away!" Yang Qiqi said indignantly. "If I hadn't been wounded fighting the giant python, how could they ever have gotten away with it?"
"Come off it. If you hadn't been wounded, you'd have fought Zhang Nai Pao and died even more miserably." Wei Zhao said, with a mocking curl to his voice.
"Hmph!" Yang Qiqi snorted, but she did not deny it. Zhang Nai Pao was formidable, and she knew it well enough in her heart; she was no match for him.
"I wasn't going to bother with this at first. But since it was Zhang Nai Pao who took it, I don't mind stepping in and taking it back." The moment Wei Zhao heard that the Snow Lingzhi had been seized by Zhang Nai Pao, the notion of snatching a treasure took root in his mind.
"Really?" Yang Qiqi's eyes lit up as she asked.
"Really! But I won't give it back to you once I take it. Whoever grabs it, keeps it." Wei Zhao had no intention, of course, of returning it to Yang Qiqi.
Hearing those overbearing words, Yang Qiqi's tears came again despite herself! She had been aggrieved enough already; it was only with great difficulty that Wei Zhao had given her a glimmer of hope, letting her glimpse the dawn—and then in the blink of an eye, Wei Zhao too had turned into a bandit!
The Snow Lingzhi he took back would not be returned to her but kept for himself. This left Yang Qiqi all the more disheartened. Thinking of Xiao Jiu's illness, her heart felt still worse; the right of exchange that had been almost within her grasp was gone, just like that.
"You're just as bad as they are!" Yang Qiqi glared at Wei Zhao, tears plopping down one after another, looking as aggrieved as could be, as though Wei Zhao had robbed her of something of her own. "The right of exchange for the natural treasures—I wanted it to cure my good sister's illness, but now... boo hoo..."
Yang Qiqi had not cried when she was wounded, yet now she wept from sheer grievance.
Wei Zhao was a cold man, but he had a soft spot in him; he could not shut his eyes to those he knew. He thought: this cool little miss had not shed a tear even when she took such grievous wounds, yet now she wept so bitterly because the natural treasures had been snatched from her. That being so, the right of exchange truly mattered a great deal to her.
"All right, stop crying. I'll take it back in a while and give it to you. But the other things, we're keeping." Wei Zhao said, somewhat helpless. "Good timing, though—you're an external cultivator, aren't you? I'll be needing your help shortly. If you want the Snow Lingzhi, you'll have to put in some effort."
"Really?" At his words, Yang Qiqi was instantly overjoyed, and nodded hurriedly. "Mm, mm, I'll do my part! I promise!"
"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled. "Fine. First let's heal the wounds on your body, then we go settle accounts with Zhang Nai Pao."
Wei Zhao was in no hurry to chase down Zhang Nai Pao, for with the Heavenly Thunder Pig at hand, the Snow Lingzhi's whereabouts could be divined at any moment. So long as the Snow Lingzhi stayed on Zhang Nai Pao's person, he would be found sooner or later.
As for the matter of Zhang Nai Pao—even without Yang Qiqi, Wei Zhao would have gone looking for him. He had earlier swallowed a silent loss without ever understanding how; and though he had fortunately broken through, Wei Zhao was not a man to take a loss lying down. To let this debt go uncollected was not in Wei Zhao's nature.
"Heal my wounds? Now?" Yang Qiqi was slightly startled. "I've already applied the medicine you gave me!"
Yu Bing stood to one side, finding it rather amusing. These two were like a pair of bickering lovers—Wei Zhao said he would not help, and in the end he helped anyway, and even gave the Snow Lingzhi back to this cool little miss. Yet Yu Bing bore no grudge; after all, even if the Snow Lingzhi had been seized, it was Wei Zhao who seized it, and if Wei Zhao chose to return it to Yang Qiqi, that was his freedom.
"Medicine won't cure it in a moment or two. If you want to stand up and fight right now, then stop wasting words." Wei Zhao said.
"Oh... then... do I still have to take my clothes off?" Yang Qiqi thought of the wounds on her shoulder and her leg, and grew a little worried. Was Wei Zhao going to strip her again this time?
"No need." Wei Zhao wasted no words; he crouched down directly beside Yang Qiqi, for with Feng Xiaoxiao behind him he could not sit.
Then Wei Zhao took Yang Qiqi's hand, pressed his fingers to her meridians, and tossed away the bandages and herbs wrapped around her arm. Then he swiftly circulated the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Formula and entered the jade-pendant space.
Yang Qiqi was slightly startled. Though she was none too willing to have a man like Wei Zhao holding her hand, seeing that he merely felt her pulse and did nothing else, she let him hold it.
But the next moment, Yang Qiqi felt with a shock as though a warm current were flowing from Wei Zhao's hand into the meridian gate of her arm. Then a warmth began to spread at her wound, so comfortable that she could not help letting out a moan.
Only after the moan did Yang Qiqi blush, for that sound really did resemble a certain kind of sound far too closely, and there in front of Wei Zhao it made her desperately embarrassed.
A sly smile flickered at the corner of Yu Bing's mouth. But seeing how utterly proper Wei Zhao looked, he realized he had misjudged the man—Wei Zhao seemed to have done nothing base at all.
Yang Qiqi too saw that Wei Zhao seemed to pay her no attention whatsoever, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Huh!" Yang Qiqi suddenly discovered that the wounds on her arm and her shoulder were healing at a speed visible to the naked eye! She was astonished—how could this be? The sight before her exceeded anything she had imagined. Never in her life had she seen wounds heal like that.
That exclamation of Yang Qiqi's drew Yu Bing's attention as well. At first Yu Bing had not meant to watch Wei Zhao treat Yang Qiqi, for he feared seeing things he ought not to see. But now he turned his head on instinct, and likewise caught that miraculous sight at Yang Qiqi's wound, and could not help exclaiming, "This... how is this possible? Even the Sun family doesn't have such a skill, do they?"
Earlier, the swelling and pain on Yu Bing's face had been cured by Wei Zhao, which had astonished him enough—but not as much as this. Curing swelling and pain was not the same as healing a wound: for swelling, one need only use true qi to reduce it; but this wound was missing flesh. How could it possibly knit together so swiftly?
Very soon, the wounds on Yang Qiqi's shoulder and arm were completely healed, and fair, tender new skin had grown over her arm.
"It's done?" Yang Qiqi could scarcely believe her own eyes. "You've healed the wound on my arm just like that?"
"Don't talk. There's still the wound on your leg." Wei Zhao said mildly.
"Oh, oh..." Yang Qiqi nodded again and again, not daring to speak another word. She had been thoroughly stunned by what she had just seen.
