Chapter 1580 — Still No Solution

The Blossom Guardian

"We've consulted many doctors, and none of them could do a thing!" Yang Huaijun said with a heavy sigh. "That's why we had Wei Zhao come over to take a look."

"Fine. Let's heal your injuries first, and then I'll go examine that man," Wei Zhao said. "Jun-ge, go tell the people outside not to come in and disturb us."

"Consider it done!" Yang Huaijun was the deputy chief, the superior of every officer on the premises. His word was law.

Once arrangements were made, Yang Huaijun took up his post at the door of the ward, effectively standing guard for Wei Zhao and the others.

With one in each hand, Wei Zhao pulled them both into the jade pendant space, activated the Xuanyuan Yulong Jue, and began treating Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian...

This was the first time Yang Huaijun had witnessed Wei Zhao's miraculous power with his own eyes. As far as he knew, only the Sun family possessed such healing methods — and even they could never treat two people simultaneously the way Wei Zhao did!

Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian, however, were already accustomed to it and cooperated readily with Wei Zhao's treatment.

Both had sustained external injuries rather than damage to their cultivation base, so it did not take long before they were fully healed.

Wei Zhao released their wrists and waved Yang Huaijun over. "We can switch now. Jun-ge, come here."

Yang Huaijun approached with a mix of hope and doubt, only to watch Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian rise from their beds as though nothing had happened, step down, and move about freely! Only then did Yang Huaijun become a full believer — Wei Zhao was this extraordinary!

Yang Huaijun's injuries, though chronic and long-standing, were primarily meridian damage. Treating them was not easy, but for Wei Zhao, it was merely a matter of time.

This time it was Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian's turn to stand guard. Before dark, Yang Huaijun had been transformed into an inner art expert at the peak of the late Yellow-stage! Wei Zhao did not use compressed true qi to force a breakthrough for Yang Huaijun, because the man's meridians had been damaged for so long and had only just been repaired. Wei Zhao feared they were still unstable and dared not risk compressing his qi, lest it damage the meridians again.

Once he himself broke through to the Earth-stage, he could raise all of them together.

Still, even the peak of the late Yellow-stage was enough to astonish Yang Huaijun! He had previously believed he would never be able to cultivate again in his lifetime. Yet now it seemed he had been restored to a state no different from being uninjured — and his power was even more robust than before!

"Eagle, from now on I'll call you Boss too. And stop calling me Jun-ge — it makes me uncomfortable!" Yang Huaijun said. "With your strength, having me as your follower would be a promotion for me!"

Seeing that Wu Chengtian also called Wei Zhao Boss, Yang Huaijun knew Wei Zhao was truly formidable and extraordinary. He understood Wu Chengtian's character: among the younger generation of the great families, the only people Wu Chengtian had ever looked up to were the experts of the Yu family — yet here he was, deferring to Wei Zhao like this. That settled it for Yang Huaijun.

Wei Zhao made no effort to correct Yang Huaijun's use of the title "Eagle." Everyone present was worthy of trust — they already knew Wei Zhao's greatest secret, and what lay in his past was hardly something worth guarding anymore.

After these two incidents, Wei Zhao could truly regard Wu Chengtian as a trusted confidant. To risk his life twice in a row to protect Tang Yun and the others — that was not something a fair-weather friend could do.

"Whatever you want. But I've gotten used to calling you Jun-ge, so how you address me is entirely your choice," Wei Zhao said with a smile. "Come on, let's go see that suspect."

"All right, Boss Wei Zhao — he's right this way!" Yang Huaijun nodded.

With Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian fully recovered, there was no need for them to remain hospitalized. The four of them headed together toward the suspect's ward.

The officers outside saw that Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian were actually able to walk and were visibly stunned — but with Yang Huaijun right there, none of them dared to ask.

Upon reaching the suspect's room, Wei Zhao spotted him at once: a man lying on the hospital bed who looked exactly like himself. The only difference was that this man's eyes were vacant and glassy, his four limbs encased in plaster, lying expressionless on the bed.

Wei Zhao frowned. Sure enough — this man's condition matched what Yang Huaijun had described. He appeared to be a mindless vegetative patient.

"That's how he is... see if there's anything you can do?" Yang Huaijun gestured toward the suspect on the bed, speaking with a note of helplessness. "If he stays like this, we'll never be able to dig out the criminal organization behind him, let alone recover the stolen property..."

"I'll see what I can do." Wei Zhao had no real confidence himself — he could only examine the situation first.

Stepping forward, Wei Zhao began a comprehensive examination of the suspect. He needed no instruments — his hands were the finest instrument there was.

He channeled true qi into the suspect's body and began assessing his condition.

The suspect's internal organs had all sustained varying degrees of serious damage at some point, but at present they appeared to be nearly healed. Though some lingering aftereffects might remain, this indicated that someone in the criminal organization possessed outstanding medical skill — someone capable of rapidly healing the suspect after he was injured.

From Wei Zhao's examination, the suspect's body showed no major problems. But when his assessment reached the brain, Wei Zhao could not help but frown deeply...

"How is it?" Yang Huaijun and Qiu Lingshan, seeing Wei Zhao remain silent for a long moment, could not resist asking.

"This is a difficult case... The doctors' examination was correct. The suspect's brain has not necrotized, but the drug has fundamentally altered its structure — the toxins have infiltrated the entire brain..." Wei Zhao said with a bitter smile. "I've tried. My healing methods have no effect on him..."

Wei Zhao's universal true qi was, as the name implied, universal — it could heal injuries in any form. The crux of the matter was that this suspect was not injured at all. His brain had been poisoned under the assault of drugs, altering the very nature of his brain tissue. Even if a way to purge the toxins were found, the chance of recovery was essentially zero.

Moreover, even if he did recover, this man's memories could only reach back to the point before the toxins invaded. The commands implanted by the hypnotist during this period would be impossible for him to remember — and that would be of no help whatsoever to solving the case.

"No way?" Yang Huaijun had half-expected as much and was not overly disappointed.

"Even if there were, it wouldn't help us crack the case," Wei Zhao said, and laid out the conclusions he had reached for Yang Huaijun and Qiu Lingshan.
