Chapter 2889 — A Plea to Tianchan

"Young Sect Master Tian, though our Yellow Earth High Sect is a sect of the Western Regions, we have long dealt frequently with your Central Plains' Xuandan Sect and Five Luminaries Sect—we are friendly sects with many collaborations between us. This time, our Young Sect Master Tu was beaten into this state by Zhang Naiyao. You cannot just leave it at that!" Earth Drill Star wailed, tears and snot streaming down his face, kneeling before Tianchan and refusing to rise, hoping she would help him.

"Earth Drill Star, I understand how you feel, but the only thing our Xuandan Sect can do is gift your sect a Great Return Pill. As for everything else, there is nothing we can do," Tianchan said, somewhat troubled. "Though the Yellow Earth High Sect is a friendly sect of our Xuandan Sect, is the Tomorrow Upon Tomorrow Sect any less so?"

"But our Yellow Earth High Sect still has to find and cultivate earth-attribute inheritors, Young Sect Master Tian—we are allies! If something happens to our Young Sect Master Tu, how could anyone in our sect search for and cultivate inheritors with peace of mind?" Earth Drill Star said. "Moreover, our Young Sect Master Tian came to the Central Plains this time precisely to find earth-attribute inheritors. Only our Young Sect Master Tu can sense and discover earth-attribute inheritance bloodlines. If something happens to him, it will affect the grand plan for the future!"

"Earth Drill Star, did I not already say? Our Xuandan Sect will provide you with a Great Return Pill; the rest is for you to figure out yourselves," Tianchan said with a bitter smile.

"We brought Great Return Pills as well, but they can only sustain the Young Sect Master Tu's life, not save him!" Earth Drill Star said. "Even if you cannot trouble the Tomorrow Upon Tomorrow Sect, Young Sect Master Tian, you must think of something!"

This was Earth Drill Star's true purpose. He had no intention of seeking trouble with Zhang Naiyao. He and Earth Tyrant had been bested by superior skill and wounded by Zhang Naiyao—that was their own lack of ability, and no one else was to blame.

But he truly had no way to save Earth Tyrant. Even the Great Return Pill was ineffective, and the Western Regions' sect was a long journey away—Earth Tyrant certainly could not endure the trip back. And even if he returned, there would be nothing to be done. His injuries were simply too severe!

Tianchan's head was splitting as well. She had already sent people to examine Earth Tyrant's injuries, and it could be said they were on par with Tagan Long's. If Earth Tyrant could be saved, then Tagan Long would have been cured long ago, and the Five Luminaries Sect would not have needed to activate her, their hidden agent!

Now, even the Five Luminaries Sect and the Xuandan Sect had no solution—how could she possibly help Earth Drill Star?

"Earth Drill Star, to be frank with you, I truly have no solution on my end either. But I can help you think on it, and if I come up with a method, I will notify you at the first opportunity," Tianchan said after a moment's pondering.

"Ah, then many thanks, Young Sect Master Tian!" Earth Drill Star could hear the perfunctory note in Tianchan's words, but he had come with a try-it-and-see attitude. If the Yellow Earth High Sect had no solution, what solution could the Xuandan Sect have? He had come purely to try his luck.

After seeing Earth Drill Star off, Tianchan still had a headache, but this was no trivial matter. She would have to speak of it with Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen and Elder Ancestor Xuanchen—after all, it might affect the future plan for the inheritors.

At that very moment, Elder Ancestor Xuanchen was tallying the results of this trial together with Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen.

"In this trial, a total of seventeen spirit herbs were successfully retrieved, Second Senior Brother. That is somewhat more than in previous rounds. Do you think it will be enough?" Elder Ancestor Xuanchen reported the tally of spirit herbs to Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen.

"Oh? Seventeen? Was it not fifteen before? How did it become two more?" Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen was slightly taken aback. "If there are seventeen, that should be about enough. Every five zhu can refine one golden pill; added to what we had before, it should be just about enough for the Cloud-Tier Island plan."

"It was indeed fifteen before, but afterward, Zhang Naiyao and Wei Zhao also passed the trial, so two more spirit herbs turned up," Elder Ancestor Xuanchen explained.

In fact, Zhang Naiyao had not originally held only one spirit herb. But while he was being attacked by spirit beasts, his backpack had been lost somewhere, and this single herb was merely one he had picked up along the way back.

As for Wei Zhao's, it had been given to him by Tianchan; he himself had not gone to pick any.

"Oh? Zhang Naiyao and Wei Zhao have both successfully passed the trial? Tianchan has already returned?" At this, Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen's expression turned somewhat strange. Tianchan had returned, and Zhang Naiyao and Wei Zhao had both successfully passed the trial—yet he had received not the slightest word of any of it beforehand...

The Five Luminaries Sect and the Xuandan Sect—it seemed they were still Elder Ancestor Xuanchen's domain! But why had Tianchan not come to report to him? What Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen did not know was that after Tianchan returned, she had been busy handling affairs, then had been separately entangled by Kang Zhaoming and Elder Ancestor Xuanchen, and afterward had prattled on with Earth Drill Star of the Yellow Earth High Sect for quite some time—leaving her no chance at all to meet with Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen alone.

"Yes—and so, the moment they passed the trial, I came at once to tell you, Second Senior Brother. Rest assured, Tianchan is fine, and Senior Brother's disciple Wei Zhao is fine too," Elder Ancestor Xuanchen said with a genial expression, as though he too had only just learned of it.

"But did they not stay in the Five Baleful Wastelands for more than twenty days? How are they still fine?" Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen was rather surprised that Wei Zhao had not been invaded by the five baleful energies within his body. As for Zhang Naiyao, however, Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen found it easy to understand. "Zhang Naiyao is no problem—it is the nature of the cultivation method he practices; nothing will come of it."

"Oh, according to Tianchan, Wei Zhao seems to have reached some kind of agreement with Zhang Naiyao. Not only is Wei Zhao fine, but the girl he carried back on his back seems fine as well—at least, Steward Sun detected no trace of the five baleful energies on them. So it must be that Zhang Naiyao used the Bee-Snatching Divine Art to draw the five baleful energies out of them," Elder Ancestor Xuanchen said. Though he too did not understand why Zhang Naiyao would reach some kind of agreement with Wei Zhao, he had not been able to press Tianchan on it in Kang Zhaoming's presence.

"Oh... no wonder..." Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen nodded.

As the two were conversing, a knock came at the door from outside. Anyone bold enough to knock here was someone of consequence—none other than Heaven's Mechanism Star, Heaven, Earth, and Man, or Tianchan—so Elder Ancestor Xuanchen said directly, "Come in!"

"Disciple Tianchan pays respects to Master and Senior Uncle!" Tianchan said respectfully after entering.

"Tianchan, what brings you here?" Elder Ancestor Xuanzhen asked.
