Chapter 474 — A Misunderstanding!

The Blossom Guardian

So Mother Tang sat gazing happily at the bank card in her hand, a smile on her face, her heart filled with an indescribable lightness of spirit — when the sudden ringing of the telephone gave her such a start. She picked it up, and it turned out to be her daughter calling.

When Tang Yun asked where she was, Mother Tang thought nothing of it and answered on reflex that she was at the bank. The moment the words were out, she regretted them. Wei Zhao had plainly given her the money on the sly, not wanting Tang Yun to know, and now she had gone and let it slip. She could only hope her daughter would not grow suspicious... "I'm just checking how much is left after your father's hospital stay, so I can work out how big a storefront our family can afford..." Mother Tang hurried to explain. "Mom, how much did Wei Zhao give you this morning?" Tang Yun's heart tightened. She had suspected before that Wei Zhao had given her mother money, and now, hearing that her mother was at the bank, she was certain of it.

So Tang Yun did not ask whether Wei Zhao had given her mother money at all — she asked how much, which made it plain that she already knew, and that her mother need not hide it any longer. "Ah?" Mother Tang was taken aback. Her daughter already knew? It never once occurred to her that her daughter might be bluffing. She hesitated, then said, "Five hundred thousand..." "What? Five hundred thousand!" Tang Yun was stunned. Her whole body seemed to go limp, as though that one sentence from her mother had drained every last ounce of strength out of her. The phone slipped from her hand and clattered to the floor, back cover and battery flying apart. Tang Yun did not even seem to notice; she swayed on her feet and would have fainted away had she not caught hold of the corridor wall... The tears in her eyes slid down despite herself... So it was true — he had given her mother a great sum of money! Five hundred thousand — five hundred thousand! That was enough to buy her family a storefront. For no reason at all, by what right had Wei Zhao given her family five hundred thousand?

Last time, when her father had his surgery, counting the money he gave Xiaowei, he had come up with only two hundred thousand in all. This time, though, he had produced five hundred thousand. What was that supposed to mean?

The first thought that came to Tang Yun's mind was the breakup fee Feng Xiaoxiao had spoken of that morning! Only a breakup fee could explain why Wei Zhao would give her family so much, surely?

So that was it. So that was how it was... Tang Yun leaned her whole body against the wall, weeping silently... Why? Why, when he already had Feng Xiaoxiao, did Wei Zhao still come and toy with her?

Or was it that she herself had been too foolish, too naive, thinking he was different from those spoiled young masters — when in truth he was no different from any of them? When she thought of what had befallen Xiaofen, Wei Zhao's conduct needed no further explanation... Wei Zhao, I hate you! Tang Yun bit her lip, not knowing what to do, not knowing what to do with herself... "Yunyun, what's wrong? What are you doing? Who bullied you?" Liu Xinwen came out of the restroom and saw Tang Yun leaning over the wall, weeping silently, her phone lying on the floor in pieces. "Xinwen..." Tang Yun looked up at her and forced a smile. "It's nothing... I'm just a little dizzy..." "Dizzy? If you're dizzy, why are you crying?" Liu Xinwen clearly did not believe her. "Did someone bully you? Yunyun, tell me, and I'll take a cleaver to him!"

Liu Xinwen had been that fierce since childhood, and she was still the same now. "It's nothing, really nothing..." Of course Tang Yun would not tell Liu Xinwen the sorrow in her heart — not even Liu Xinwen, her very best friend... She had been abandoned by Wei Zhao... How could she bring herself to say such a thing? Back then Liu Xinwen had urged her to keep her distance from Wei Zhao, but she had refused to listen. Now she had suffered for it and been left staring blankly — and served her right.

Seeing that Tang Yun did not want to talk, Liu Xinwen did not press her. She picked up the pieces of the phone from the floor and pressed them into Tang Yun's hand. "Thank you..." Tang Yun had no heart to check whether the phone still worked or had been broken in the fall; she stuffed it into her pocket. "Yunyun, if anyone has wronged you, you must tell me — I'll stand up for you!" Liu Xinwen said, a little worried. "Thank you... but really, it's nothing!" Tang Yun shook her head.

Liu Xinwen helped Tang Yun back to the classroom. The bell for class rang just then, so Liu Xinwen had no chance to ask more; she could only sigh and return to her seat... On the way back to school, Wei Zhao glanced at the clock on the dashboard and suddenly remembered that the end of first period had long since passed, and Tang Yun had wanted to see him. The girl wouldn't be fretting, would she?

Of course, Wei Zhao did not give it much thought. From Tang Yun's expression that morning, she had been a little angry, but nowhere near the point of suspicion, so he was not particularly worried.

How could he know that the bank card with five hundred thousand on it, which he had kindly given Mother Tang that morning, had been taken by Tang Yun as a breakup fee? Had he known it would turn out this way, he would never have bothered!

He took out his phone and dialed Tang Yun's number, but the line answered with a message saying the phone was switched off, which startled Wei Zhao slightly! The little girl wasn't angry at him for not coming to find her after class, was she? "Boss, are you calling sister-in-law?" Kang Xiaobo saw Wei Zhao making a call and guessed roughly who it was. "I promised Tang Yun I'd go find her after first period, but I got held up saving you!" Wei Zhao said with a bitter smile. "Huh? No way? Then doesn't that make me the villain of the ages?" Kang Xiaobo was startled and hurried to say, "Boss, do you want me to go explain to her?" "No need, I'll explain it myself." Wei Zhao smiled. He had never been in the habit of having others vouch for him. And as far as he was concerned, this was no great matter, so he did not take it to heart.

Tang Yun was angry? Feng Xiaoxiao was secretly delighted, clenching her fists. Wonderful — she had finally made Tang Yun angry. It seemed the trick she had used that morning had worked rather well; she would have to use it a great deal more in the future!

Wei Zhao had called Tang Yun and found her phone off, so he tossed his own onto the dashboard. No sooner had he set it down than it began to ring.

Wei Zhao thought Tang Yun was calling back, but when he picked it up, it turned out to be Fatty Lai. "Hello? Fatty Lai?" Wei Zhao answered casually. "Boss, where are you? I've got good news!" Fatty Lai's voice on the phone sounded very excited.
