Chapter 1550 — Yaoyao's Rebuttal, Part 2

The Blossom Guardian

"Oh yes, oh yes! We're all lining up to be harassed!" Shen Yushu nodded and added.

Qiu Lingshan was left nearly speechless. She wanted to scold Shen Yushu for being shameless, but they were, after all, speaking up for Wei Zhao, so she held her tongue. Had it not been for her position, Qiu Lingshan might well have said it herself: *I'm lining up too!*

"If he's a lunatic at heart, then anything is possible!" Wang Hekan, who had not spoken up until now, suddenly broke in again. "In my analysis, this criminal suspect clearly has something wrong with him mentally. Otherwise, after robbing a bank and a gold shop, why would he attack innocent civilians? What money do those innocent civilians even have? He must be someone with a problem!"

Shen Yushu thought, *You're the one with a problem!* She picked up the basin of foot-wash water, pretending she was about to dump it, and strolled over to Wang Hekan's side. Then she "accidentally" slipped, and the entire basin of cold water came crashing down over Wang Hekan's head!

In an instant, Wang Hekan was turned into a drowned rat!

Wang Hekan was about to explode with fury when he heard Shen Yushu say, "Oops, sorry! It wasn't on purpose!"

"..." Wang Hekan was rendered momentarily speechless. She had already said it was an accident -- if he blew up now, wouldn't he look petty? Besides, she was just a high school girl; if he made a fuss over it, he'd be the one who looked ridiculous.

"Some people's minds aren't clear. They keep saying nonsensical things. A splash of cold water and they'll come to their senses." Wu Chengtian spoke up with cutting sarcasm. He had been seething inside for a while now. How dare this man lead the charge against his Wei Zhao? It was infuriating.

"You... what did you say?" Wang Hekan flew into a rage.

*Bang!* Wu Chengtian slammed his palm down on a metal flower stand beside the sofa. The stand crumpled instantly into a pile of scrap metal. Only then did Wu Chengtian look lazily at Wang Hekan and say, "Were you talking to me?"

"Officer Song, look! This man is threatening me with violence!" Wang Hekan cried out in rage and alarm alike. He had not expected Wu Chengtian to be this powerful. If that palm had come down on his own head, would he still be alive?

"Threatening? I'm practicing my martial arts -- didn't you see? I'm a descendant of the Wu family's Iron Hands. I have to train my Iron Hands technique every single day. If you don't appreciate it, fine. But to call that a threat -- is something wrong with your head?" Wu Chengtian said dismissively.

"..." Wang Hekan was struck dumb by Wu Chengtian's retort, not knowing what to say. He could only close his mouth in sullen silence.

"All right, Xiao Wu, hold off for now. Let's hear what Officer Song has to say about business." Gu Mengyao waved her hand. She wanted to get rid of Qiu Lingshan and the others as quickly as possible, then consult with her Daddy about what to do.

In any case, Gu Mengyao did not believe for a single moment that Wei Zhao had done any of these things. It made absolutely no sense.

"Miss Gu, we only wish to confirm -- when exactly did Wei Zhao leave? After he left, did he contact any of you?" Qiu Lingshan nodded and asked.

"You don't know when he left?" Gu Mengyao stared at Qiu Lingshan oddly. "Didn't he say goodbye to you before he went? And as for what he went to do, you should be well aware. How would he make phone calls from such a remote place?"

"That..." Qiu Lingshan couldn't help but nod. It was true -- when Wei Zhao departed, he had bid farewell to her as well as to Chen Yutian. And she naturally knew what he had gone off to do. The question had been rather unnecessary.

"Officer Song, it would seem you do indeed have a very deep connection with the suspect," Wang Hekan said now, his tone oily and insinuating. "Please mind your position and refrain from doing anything you'll regret. Know that I have my eyes on you, and at any moment I can report your every move to your superiors."

Qiu Lingshan was thoroughly infuriated by Wang Hekan. She drew a deep breath and said, "Detective Wang, I don't need you reminding me about my own affairs."

"Hmph!" Wang Hekan let out a cold laugh and said nothing more.

However, Gu Mengyao's words had struck a chord with Qiu Lingshan, prompting a question of critical importance: exactly when had the first bank robbery occurred -- during the tomb raid she had undertaken with Chen Yutian and Wei Zhao, or after the day they had parted ways at the tomb's exit?

Inside the ancient tomb, they had seen no sunlight for days on end. Their phones and electronic devices had tumbled into the abyss along with their luggage when the floor of the underground palace tilted, shattering to pieces. After that, there was no longer any concept of time within the tomb -- they did not know when to rest or when to resume walking. Yet after emerging from the tomb, Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yutian discovered that all their communication devices were either broken or lost, and they had no way to contact headquarters. They could only walk to the nearest town on foot, and at the time they had paid no attention to the passage of time either.

But if Qiu Lingshan could somehow determine the exact moment she and Wei Zhao had parted ways, wouldn't that clear his name? The trouble was, the tomb raid was a classified matter -- even Liu Wangli and the others could not be told outright. Qiu Lingshan could only discuss it with Chen Yutian after returning to see if he happened to remember the time.

There were also two other important figures: Yu Xiaoke and Elder Yu. But Qiu Lingshan had no way to approach either of them directly.

"Here's what we'll do. Since Wei Zhao has already departed, did he leave by car?" Liu Wangli knew he would get nowhere pressing Qiu Lingshan about Wei Zhao's whereabouts, and from the look of it, Qiu Lingshan knew just as much as Gu Mengyao and the rest. So Liu Wangli pivoted to asking about something else.

"No." Gu Mengyao shook her head. "He drove someone else's car. His own car is parked in the garage beneath Feng Xiaoxiao's building -- for all we know, it's been stolen."

"Do you have a key to that garage?" Liu Wangli asked.

"I do..." Gu Mengyao hesitated a moment, then nodded.

"Good. Would you come with us to the garage and take a look at the car? If it really is a vehicle running stolen plates, then there must be subtle discrepancies in certain small details -- and that could help clear Wei Zhao of suspicion," Liu Wangli said.

"All right..." Gu Mengyao wavered briefly before agreeing. "Shall we leave now?"

"Yes, let's go right away!" Liu Wangli said. "The sooner we get there, the sooner we can resolve this." (To be continued)
