Chapter 2675 — Yushan's Lie
"To a hotel. Not the one we went to before, though—we can't stay in this town. We'll head to the city next door!" Zhao Qibing feared that someone in the town might recognize Yuning and cause unnecessary trouble. He had already mapped out the route and settled on a five-star hotel in the neighboring city.
"Oh..." Uncle Zhu nodded, and a rough idea began to form in his mind. "Young Master Bing, you aren't thinking of... forcing yourself on her, are you? Wouldn't that stir up conflict and war between our Hidden Zhao family and the Hidden Rain family?"
"Haha, Uncle Zhu, you're only looking at the surface. You haven't seen the interests at stake beneath it..." With that, Zhao Qibing laid out all his earlier analysis and plans for Uncle Zhu.
Hearing Zhao Qibing's analysis, Uncle Zhu saw the light at once. Now that something like this had happened to the Rain family's eldest daughter, this was no time for assigning blame—the proper course was to turn a bad thing into a good one. What Zhao Qibing said did make real sense. Once Yuning became his wife, everything would be smooth sailing.
Still, could this matter be turned to Wei Zhao's advantage somehow? Uncle Zhu resolved to find an opportunity to inform Wei Zhao of it at the first chance. If Wei Zhao could make use of it, all the better; if not, he would at least have done his duty.
Back at the Hidden Rain family, a long time had passed since Yushan and Yuning left with no word, and Yuxiaocheng was finally growing anxious. He dialed the pager Yuning carried. This pager only worked within the Hidden Rain family's grounds—it was much like an intercom system and could not reach the outside world.
Yuxiaocheng had been afraid Yuning might contact Wei Zhao at will, so he had restricted her communications.
When the call went through, however, it showed that she was out of range and the call was restricted. Yuxiaocheng was startled at once! That meant the pager had been turned off, or she had already left the area where the Hidden Rain family's signal could reach!
But there was no way Yuning would turn off her pager, and it charged by solar power, so it could not have run out of battery. The only possibility was that something had gone wrong!
At that thought, Yuxiaocheng dialed Yushan's pager. Yushan's pager did connect, but no one answered. He then switched to Yushan's cell phone, and it was the same—it rang but no one picked up. Cold sweat broke out instantly on Yuxiaocheng's forehead.
"Someone come!" Yuxiaocheng roared.
The one who came was Yuqi. Yuliu was dead, and Yuqi had now taken over Yuliu's former duties, becoming Yuxiaocheng's attendant.
"Go have people search the area around the family's mountain range for Yuning and Yushan. Report back to me the moment there's any news!" Yuxiaocheng ordered.
"Yes, Patriarch!" Yuqi accepted the order and hurried off to find people to search the area around the family grounds for Yuning and Yushan.
Yuxiaocheng, meanwhile, had his brows tightly knitted, hesitating over whether to tell his father about this. In the end, he decided to wait. If it turned out to be a false alarm, he would not disturb his father. The Rain family's old ancestor had recently touched the barrier to the peak of the early Heaven rank and had a very good chance of advancing to the mid Heaven rank, so lately he cultivated at every spare moment. Yuxiaocheng did not want to intrude.
But soon enough, word came from Yuqi's side—and it was very bad news. They had found Yushan on the family's back mountain, but he had been knocked unconscious and was still in a coma. Yushan was alone, and there was no trace of Yuning anywhere near him!
The news made Yuxiaocheng's heart sink. He quickly ordered Yuqi to intensify the search and widen its scope, while having Yushan brought to him at once. Yuxiaocheng needed to find out exactly what had happened.
Yuqi soon delivered Yushan and reported, "Patriarch, Yushan is here. After we found him, we took no measures—we checked and confirmed Young Master Yushan was uninjured, and we did not wake him..."
"Mm." Yuxiaocheng nodded and applied a few massage techniques to Yushan's body. Yushan slowly came to, blinking his eyes open in some confusion, and the next moment he suddenly cried out, "This is bad, save her, quick! Someone has abducted little sister Yuning!"
"What!" Yuxiaocheng was startled, his eyes going wide as he stared at Yushan. "What happened? Where did Yuning go? Who took her?"
"Ah, Uncle, go save little sister Yuning, quick! Some villains carried her off!" Yushan struggled to climb up from the stretcher.
"Don't get so worked up. Tell me slowly—what exactly happened?" Seeing Yushan's incoherent speech, Yuxiaocheng frowned and asked.
"Ah... it was like this. Little sister Yuning was pushing me around near the back mountain when two people suddenly appeared, knocked me out, and then carried little sister Yuning away..." Yushan said.
"What people? What did those two look like, and which direction did they run?" Yuxiaocheng frowned and asked.
"Those two... one old, one young. I didn't recognize the old one, but the young one seemed to be Wei Zhao... I can't be sure, it all happened too fast. The young one grabbed Yuning, and the old one struck me, and I blacked out and knew nothing more..." Yushan said. "As for which direction they went, I don't know either. I was unconscious—I didn't see clearly."
"What? Wei Zhao?" Yuxiaocheng was stunned. He had not expected Wei Zhao to be the one behind this!
In truth, Yushan was merely muddying the waters here, his purpose being to send the Hidden Rain family in the wrong direction and buy time for Zhao Qibing! He had said it *seemed* to be Wei Zhao, not that he was certain. Even if Yuxiaocheng eventually learned the truth, Yushan could always excuse himself by saying he had not seen clearly.
"It seemed to be Wei Zhao... but I'm not certain either. Uncle, you know I'm an invalid and can barely move. I only caught a glimpse from the side, so I didn't see clearly," Yushan said.
"Yuqi, search for me! Search the whole town, then send men to watch the highway entrances of the neighboring cities to find any trace of Yuning!" Yuxiaocheng ordered.
"Yes!" Yuqi acknowledged the order.
Yuxiaocheng somewhat regretted not having given Yuning a cell phone; then at least he could have used its location tracking. But that was no longer an option now—he had no leads at all, and Yushan had been unconscious for some time. Whether they could even intercept Wei Zhao was now in question.
Under the circumstances, Yuxiaocheng had no time to doubt Yushan. Instead, he dashed quickly toward the mountain peak. This matter had gone beyond his control and his authority to decide. If Yuning were merely his daughter, he could have made the call himself, but Yuning's status was special—the Rain family's old ancestor had to render the final judgment.
The Rain family's old ancestor had just returned to his place of secluded cultivation and had only just begun cultivating when he heard Yuxiaocheng's frantic shouting from outside: "Father, something's happened—something terrible has happened!"
