Chapter 3135 — No Revenge to Be Had

The Blossom Guardian

Wei Zhao waved a hand, signaling Vice President Ouyang to spare him the praise. "Brother Ouyang, why not tell me about your own affairs instead?"

"Very well! When I took part in the Cultivators' Guild's trial back then—I will spare you the details—the Pure Yin Heavenly Venerable of the Tomorrow Upon Tomorrow sect wounded me during that trial. He left me my life, it is true, but the injury struck at the very root of my meridians, and that is why I have made so little progress in all the years since! Even now my meridians have not healed, and I was struck from the Guild's list of disciples marked for key cultivation! Had my elder not been there to help me along, slipping me spirit medicines from time to time, I would have been hard pressed even to recover from my injuries—to say nothing of standing here today as a master at the peak of the early Heaven rank!" Vice President Ouyang said with deep feeling. "And though I bear the Pure Yin Heavenly Venerable a hatred no shared sky can contain, I am no match for him now. I hear the Pure Yin Heavenly Venerable is in secluded cultivation, striving to break through to the great consummation of the late Heaven rank's peak. His age and experience may not carry him through, but even if he fails, he is still something I can only look up at from afar. Revenge is impossible! And as I said, the Tomorrow Upon Tomorrow sect is connected to the Guild's Grand Supreme Honorary President, so it is impossible for the Guild to take up my cause—even my elder cannot. If I want satisfaction, I must go and seek it myself. This grudge was formed in a trial, after all, and we cannot break the rules!"

Vice President Ouyang's words drew a nod from Wei Zhao. It seemed revenge would be very hard to obtain.

"Brother Ouyang, accept what cannot be changed," Wei Zhao said, at a loss for how else to console him.

"It is nothing—I have made my peace with it! I cannot take my revenge myself, but if one day someone can avenge me, I will acknowledge that person as my master and serve him faithfully in repayment!" Vice President Ouyang declared.

"Take revenge yourself? Why can you not?" Wei Zhao asked instead.

"My meridians are badly injured. All these years of care have restored them more or less, but some parts can never recover. Unless the old injuries to those meridians heal, I cannot charge straight through to the mid Heaven rank and keep cultivating—otherwise, my strength will cap out here for the rest of my life." Vice President Ouyang shook his head and spoke with some helplessness.

"Little Kong, step outside for a moment. I have something to discuss with Vice President Ouyang," Wei Zhao said, waving a hand at the pill-appraiser disciple.

But Little Kong was wholly absorbed in studying the first-grade automatic medicinal cauldron, deaf to Wei Zhao's words as though he had not heard them at all, which drew a wry smile from Wei Zhao. He had underestimated the pull such a divine artifact held for a pill refiner.

Still, this was a good thing. One could well imagine what a sales frenzy would erupt once this cauldron reached the market!

"Little Kong, out with you. Brother Ling and I have matters to discuss!" Vice President Ouyang snapped. Little Kong was his trusted confidant—otherwise he would never have been allowed to test this first-grade automatic medicinal cauldron—but Vice President Ouyang knew that what Wei Zhao was about to say was likely confidential and must not reach Little Kong's ears.

"Ah!" Little Kong started awake as if struck on the head, staring blankly at Vice President Ouyang. "Vice President, what is it?"

"Step outside for a bit. Brother Ling and I have matters to discuss!" Vice President Ouyang said.

"Yes, sir!" Little Kong nodded, but his gaze stayed fixed on the first-grade automatic medicinal cauldron on the table, reluctant to part with it.

"Take it out with you to study." Wei Zhao waved a hand and said indifferently, "That disciple from before was a master at the peak of the late Earth rank. Here, surely no one would dare snatch something belonging to the Cultivators' Guild?"

"That there certainly is not!" Vice President Ouyang said. "No one yet dares provoke the Cultivators' Guild. Rest assured, Mr. Ling! Little Kong, thank Mr. Ling at once!"

"Thank you, Mr. Ling!" Little Kong held the first-grade automatic medicinal cauldron as though he could never get enough of it, lifting it and finding he could not bear to set it down. This was a treasure that could vault him straight into the ranks of outstanding first-grade pill refiners, after all! By the look of it, he had not heard a word Wei Zhao said earlier, nor did he know Wei Zhao's surname was Ling—he had taken him for surnamed Ling all along!

"Brother Ouyang, I think Little Kong should be the one to keep charge of this cauldron from now on. Let him handle it for the demonstrations as well," Wei Zhao said mildly.

"What?!" Little Kong froze on the spot. Did that not make the cauldron practically his own? For a moment he did not know what to do with himself.

"Little Kong, thank Mr. Ling at once!" Vice President Ouyang hurried to say.

"Thank you, Mr. Ling!" Little Kong thanked him, beside himself with joy.

Vice President Ouyang could not be bothered to correct Little Kong's slip of the tongue. He waved a hand, signaling that he might leave.

And once Little Kong had departed, overjoyed, only Wei Zhao and Vice President Ouyang remained in the room. "Brother Ling, you may speak now," said Vice President Ouyang.

"Your injuries—I can heal them!" Wei Zhao would not rest until he had said something shocking, and the moment the words left his mouth, Vice President Ouyang started in fright.

"You... you can heal them? How is that possible? My meridians are severed—it is not some other matter. Unless it were the legendary pinnacle fourth-grade Great Return Pill, but that is a thing of legend!" Vice President Ouyang asked, shocked and bewildered.

"A fourth-grade Great Return Pill I do not have, but there is still a way to heal your injuries," Wei Zhao said. "Only, I must ask you to keep this matter confidential, Brother Ouyang!"

"That goes without saying!" Though shaken beyond measure, Vice President Ouyang nodded at Wei Zhao's words. "I will certainly keep it secret. But what method do you have to heal injured meridians?"

"Just do not move." As he spoke, Wei Zhao reached out and pressed his fingers to the pulse gate at Vice President Ouyang's wrist. Vice President Ouyang gave a start of alarm—had he not known Wei Zhao would never harm him, and that even if Wei Zhao meant to, he had no strength to resist, it would truly have frightened him to death!
