Chapter 2843 — Waking Up
"Hoo-hoo—(That still won't do. He provoked me, and I mean to kill him!)" the eight-legged lizard spirit beast said.
"Cheep-cheep! (I beg you, spare him!)" the Thunder Pig pleaded.
"Hoo-hoo—(No! Enough, say no more, little thing. Your strength is weaker than mine, so you ought to obey me! I command you now—step aside at once, or I'll finish you off along with him!)" The eight-legged lizard was not the sort of spirit beast that took pleasure in slaughtering its own kind, and so it had no wish to raise a claw against the Thunder Pig.
"Cheep-cheep! (I'm a contract spirit beast—your rank suppression doesn't work on me. I may be terrified of you, but I won't step aside. My master has been good to me!)" The Thunder Pig shook its head firmly.
"Hoo-hoo—(Very well, then. Don't blame me for showing no mercy!)" the eight-legged lizard roared in fury, ready to swat the Thunder Pig aside and then finish off Wei Zhao.
"Cheep-cheep? (Could you give me a little more time? Let me try to wake my master?)" The Thunder Pig was suddenly frantic.
"Hoo-hoo—(Go keep yourself company off to the side!)" The eight-legged lizard thrust out a foreclaw and sent the Thunder Pig flying with a single swat.
"Cheep... cheep..." The Thunder Pig let out a shrill cry as it was flung backward. The blow was not fatal, but it was badly hurt, and it crashed heavily to the ground and could not rise again...
"Hmph, biting off more than it can chew!" Zhang Naipao could not understand what the Thunder Pig and the eight-legged lizard had said to each other, but it was plain enough that the Thunder Pig was trying to stop the lizard from attacking Wei Zhao. He said this because he had already seen that the Thunder Pig's strength was at the peak of the late Mystic Rank—worlds apart from the eight-legged lizard. Given the rank suppression between spirit beasts, there was simply no way the Thunder Pig could make the lizard hold back!
Feng Shipian, Li Ciba, Ge Xian, and Zhao Qitan, however, were rather puzzled and annoyed. By all rights, Wei Zhao should not have been attacked by spirit beasts at all. What was his contract spirit beast running over there to stir up trouble for? From the look of it, it seemed to have enraged the eight-legged lizard and gotten itself badly wounded in the bargain!
"Hey, little pig, get back here quick! Brother Lin will be fine—these spirit beasts seem quite friendly toward him!" Feng Shipian shouted at the Thunder Pig.
The Thunder Pig rolled its eyes in speechless exasperation. Feng Shipian and the others did not know the truth, and there was no way for it to explain. Besides, even if it wanted to get up now, it could not—its injuries were too severe, and it simply could not rise...
Watching the eight-legged lizard crawl toward Wei Zhao as though about to finish him off, Zhao Qitan and the others were frantic with worry, yet utterly helpless. For all that their present party—two Heaven Rank, one Earth Rank, one Mystic Rank—was a rather formidable combination in the cultivation world, they still had no power to resist a behemoth like a spirit beast. By virtue of their natural advantages, spirit beasts held a great innate edge over human cultivators!
This time, as far as they were concerned, Wei Zhao was truly done for...
At this moment, Wei Zhao's primal spirit was trapped in an unreal environment, which had left his mind unsettled and sent him into a frantic, berserk rampage. Wei Zhao's body ran amok in the real world, while his primal spirit ran amok to and fro within the jade pendant—only Wei Zhao himself did not know it...
"Xiaoyi, what's wrong with you?" Old Jiao was somewhat alarmed, but calling Wei Zhao's name twice was of no use at all. For one thing, Jiao Yazi had no real strength to speak of; for another, he was merely an illusory, insubstantial form containing only a trace of primal spirit, and lacked the power to rouse Wei Zhao.
"Xiaoyi!" Old Jiao called again, but Wei Zhao was still racing wildly through the jade-pendant space, crashing and clattering about until even the true qi within that space trembled along with him...
"What's going on here? What are you playing at? I want to cultivate in peace, and I can't even get that! It's not as if I'm asking for much—just borrowing a corner of your territory. Is there any need to kick up such a racket? Do you really think this territory is yours to run as you please?" An abrupt voice suddenly rang out within the jade-pendant space!
What astonished Jiao Yazi was that the voice belonged to that "ghostly thing" which, ever since it had entered the jade pendant, had made no sound at all and had simply seized a corner to sleep in! He saw the ghostly thing rise from its corner—its shape was still indistinct—but one thing was certain: Wei Zhao's berserk state had woken it up!
Small wonder, though. Wei Zhao was making no effort to suppress his strength at all; racing wildly through the jade-pendant space, he had stirred up all the true qi and energy around him, so that the true qi and energy within the space were surging about with him. There was no way that ghostly thing could cultivate in peace there any longer...
"You're awake?" Jiao Yazi was startled. He had not expected the ghostly thing to wake at such a moment—and he had no idea whether it was friend or foe, or whether it would only add to the chaos!
"This place has been turned upside down by that little thing—how could I not get up? I can't even get a moment's peace... Eh?" After voicing that complaint, the ghostly thing suddenly "looked" toward Wei Zhao, who was running madly through the jade-pendant space. "What's wrong with him? He looks like he's lost his mind."
"Exactly! Can you do something about it?" Jiao Yazi asked hastily, after a brief start of surprise. He had not expected the ghostly thing to have spotted the problem too.
"Qi deviation from cultivation, isn't it?" the ghostly thing said lazily. "Never mind what's wrong with you. Since I'm cultivating on your territory and you've disturbed me so that I can't go on in peace, I'll lend you a hand!"
"You can help him?" Jiao Yazi was delighted and asked at once.
"Of course I can. I'm not like you—you're nothing but a wisp of primal spirit. Your true body may well be mighty, but you're useless as you are now. You're no match for me!" The ghostly thing said smugly, "Just watch me!"
"You certainly do love to hear yourself talk," Jiao Yazi said coldly. "If you can do it, then hurry up and do it."
"Boy! Wake up—stop running!" the ghostly thing suddenly bellowed, so loudly that the energy and true qi in the jade-pendant space quivered—and Jiao Yazi stared at the ghostly thing in astonishment!
That mighty roar might seem no different from an ordinary loud shout, but in truth there was something special about it: it could bring a person whose mind had been clouded by qi deviation back from the demons of the heart. The tremendous sound carried within it an energy that cleared the mind—much the same effect as Shaolin's Lion's Roar.
"Ah!" Wei Zhao cried out in alarm, abruptly waking from the nightmare he had been in. His primal spirit, there in the jade-pendant space, caught sight of the ghostly thing!RS
